Since 1884, Portman Road has long been the home stadium for Ipswich Town F.C. who at present play in the Championship in England. It’s an all seater stadium with a capacity of just over 30,000 and lies in the heart of Ipswich, simply a few hundred metres from the train station which is on the mainline from London.
Soccer is, arguably, the world’s most popular game. Every day, millions of people all around the world either play or watch a game of soccer. Some people do both! It’s that much fun. Football, as the game is also known, is probably so popular because it is so easy to play. All you need is a couple friends, a ball and an open field and you’re good to go.
Soccer rules – Despite being a sport with roots reaching out to medieval and even ancient times, soccer was never really played under a set of strict rules until 1863.
Bolton Wanderers were formed in 1874 by Thomas Ogden, a school teacher and were originally called Christ Church FC. After a discussion with the vicar, who objected to meetings being held in the school without his presence, the club relocated its base to a local pub in 1877 and adopted the name of Bolton Wanderers. Four years later the club moved to a new ground and entered the FA Cup for the first time. Season tickets were made available at a guinea (£1.05) each.
