First World Cup For Spain

2010 World cup will not be famous for great games of football but it will surely be famous for two reasons. One because Spain won it’s first ever World cup and second being the first ever World cup hosted in African soil. Iker Casillas when interviewed by his beautiful fiance who was wearing a lovely silver jewellery earrings told the media, he still doesn’t believe Spain is World champion and also this is one of his greatest moments of all time.

Spain was most bookies’ favourite at the start of the tournament but after they lost the first game to Switzerland lots of people started questioning their mentality. But all those critics were shown not to doubt this Spanish team after they beat Netherlands in the final of the World cup. Holland were not at their best but it was a tactical game. Several fouls were committed by both teams. Holland conceded 28 fouls and Spain 19. It was like chess match other than a beautiful game of football.

Though Netherlands did have chances to score the goals when Robben was clean through one on one against Iker Casillas but Casillas saved both chances. Then one of the best players of the tournament Andres Iniesta scored a wonderful goal to win it for Spain. The celebration started shortly after when the final whistle went. Holland’s bench ran off towards the referee for not giving the foul or the corner before the goal. Yes it was a corner and yes it was a foul on Elia before the goal was scored and if he would have given it who knows what the outcome would have been. I thought overall the referee did pretty well not to send anyone off and keep it at 11 against 11.

Iker Casillas who started at 19 won his 112 on the day and he is not even 30. Holding the trophy as a captain must be some feeling. After the match few players kissed their silver rings and silver bracelets remembering their loved once. It was an awesome scene.
